This done-for-you Work Capsule Wardrobe will make an excellent blueprint for you to copy in creating your own capsule wardrobe even if the exact items in it aren’t those that are appropriate for your own field of work. It was put together with professional services roles in mind for those working in a profession with a degree of formality.
From 26 items I have created over 6 weeks worth of outfits.
Here’s how to put your capsule wardrobe together:
1. CHOOSE 2-3 NEUTRAL COLOURS FROM YOUR PALETTE
In this example, I have created the capsule for someone with Deep+Warm colouring, so I have chosen black and cream as the neutral colours. (The Deep palettes are full of deep and bold colours so I have intentionally chosen the cream to add some lightness into the capsule given that it’s summer here in the UK).
2. CHOOSE 2-3 ACCENT COLOURS FROM YOUR PALETTE
To add some brightness and interest I have added a deep green and a bright red.
3. BUILD YOUR CAPSULE IN 3’S
Choose items from your wardrobe, or new/pre-loved items if you are starting from scratch, in groups of 3. Each item needs to be in one or a mix of the capsule colours. So, select:
3 x short sleeved tops (or 6 if you need more given the time of year)
3 x long sleeved tops
3 x cardigans
3 x jackets
3 x skirts
3 x pairs of trousers
3 x dresses
Simply choose the types of items that you enjoy wearing and that are appropriate for your place of work. If you’re not a fan of skirts, for example, instead stick to trousers. If you don’t need anything as formal as a jacket/suit, simply choose cardigans and more casual items.
4. SELECT YOUR CAPSULE ITEMS
I wanted to use some pre-loved and sustainable items within this capsule, so the primary items I built the capsule around are:
Here are the other items I have chosen in this 26-piece capsule wardrobe:
The Short Sleeve Pieces:
The Long Sleeve Pieces:
The Jackets:
The Dresses:
I added some accessories, which really help to create a co-ordinated look if this appeals to you. Again the number and variety of accessories you choose is totally up to you. You do not have to have different coloured bags and/or shoes if you are someone who prefers to stick to one, and if you don’t like jewellery or scarves then again you don’t have to add them.
From the 26 items, I have created 6 weeks worth of outfits. There are many more outfit options that I haven’t included, so it shows you that you honestly do not need to have wardrobes full of clothes to have lots of potential outfit options hanging in your wardrobe.

I hope this has helped you to think about how you can create your capsule wardrobes. It really is the way to make life easy as well as ensure you have fewer clothes in your wardrobe, something that will go a long way to helping reduce the impact clothing production has upon the environment.
