Let’s be honest, choosing what to wear each day for work can be a chore! You may be on a tight schedule, have children to help get up and out of the door, have too many choices in your wardrobe or just find the whole process of choosing what to wear a thankless task! You’ll not be alone and, despite perhaps not liking the idea of a ‘uniform’, may find the idea of list reducing your choices and making it easy each morning appealing. If this is you, read on …
If you read my blogs, you’ll know I’m a big advocate of a capsule wardrobe, a wardrobe full of fewer clothes but with clothes that all mix and match to create multiple outfit options. This is honestly the answer for your work wardrobe too. Once you’ve thought about how you would like to be perceived at work, (ie, defined your ‘personal brand’), then you can go about building a capsule wardrobe that works for the way you spend your time (at your desk, working from home, with clients, presenting, at meetings etc.) and the industry sector you work in. You can create a ‘signature style’ that works for you, in a palette of colours that projects your brand and suits your colouring. (If you’re unsure of the colours that suit you, you can find out more about colour consultations here: colour consultations for women & men’s colour consultation).
The simple example shown below shows how you can create 26 different outfit options from just 9 items of clothing, plus some co-ordinating accessories. The capsule is built around the colour theme of navy, light blue, pale pink and red and consists of a jacket, a cardigan, 3 tops and 4 bottoms as follows:
Here is an example of a week’s worth of outfits you could choose to wear from the 26 possible options:-

Choosing what to wear for work really doesn’t have to be difficult, nor costly for that matter. By reducing the expanse of your wardrobe, you are potentially able to invest more money in the items you buy, enabling you to choose higher quality items with greater longevity (which is also so good for the environment).
If you’d like to reduce the time and headaches that can come with choosing what to wear to work each day, I’d love to help you with a Wardrobe Edit/Capsule Wardrobe Consultation. Just get in touch and look forward to claiming back more time each morning.
